Ability Fix Levels
Find exercises matched to your mobility needs and fitness level
The Ability Fix Level system categorizes exercises based on intensity, complexity, and required mobility. Each level corresponds to a specific tempo (BPM), making it easy to find exercises that match your current physical abilities and goals.
Unlike traditional fitness programs that push progression between levels, our approach recognizes that most people find and stay at the level that's right for their body. Your perfect level isn't a stepping stone, but rather your personal fitness home that continues to provide an appropriate challenge and benefits.

Finding Your Home Level
If you're new to aquatic exercise, start conservative with a lower level. After trying exercises at that level, you'll quickly sense if it feels right for your body or if you need to adjust. Most users naturally find the level that matches their abilities and stay there long-term, enjoying sustainable benefits.
Your level may change temporarily due to injury or recovery, but most people return to their natural level once healed.
Key Factors to Consider:
- Current Mobility: Consider any mobility challenges you regularly face
- Fitness Level: Your current cardiovascular and muscular strength
- Exercise Experience: Your comfort and familiarity with aquatic exercise
- Medical Considerations: Any medical conditions or injuries that affect movement
Understanding Your Ability Level
The Ability Fix system recognizes that most users find their optimal level and stay there long-term. Each level is designed to match specific mobility needs and abilities. Variety in routine is accomplished by switching exercises within your level.
Personalized Fit: Most people naturally gravitate to the level that best matches their current physical abilities and remain at that level unless they have a change of mindset and are actively seeking to improve their fitness level. By finding the right level you'll be able to enjoy the process without constantly modifying the exercise in your head. If you find yourself doing so, switch levels.
Consistency Over Progression: Unlike traditional fitness programs, the levels aren't designed as a ladder to climb, but rather as distinct categories to match your unique needs. Be consistent and you'll feel better, but don't be discouraged if you don't progress.
Long-Term Engagement: Exercises within your level will continue to provide an appropriate challenge and benefits without needing to move to a different level unless you actively wish to do so. This catalog is designed to help you find exercises easily for you to switch up your routine to give you the challenge and variety that makes exercise fun.
Special Circumstances: Some users may change levels due to injury recovery or significant changes in mobility, but we find this is the exception rather than the rule.
Examples of Typical Users
Level 1–2: A person with frailty or significant mobility challenges. Focus is on maintaining function and independence.
Level 3: A person interested in general fitness and health maintenance typically finds this level appropriate for long-term use.
Level 4–5: Athletic individuals and those with high fitness levels often find these higher intensity levels beneficial for ongoing conditioning.
Professional Guidance
If you are recovering from injury, consider working with a physical therapist or aquatic fitness professional who can help you select the most appropriate exercises for your specific needs and goals.
Mixing Levels
Remember, you're not locked into a single level. Many people successfully mix exercises from different levels based on:
- How they're feeling on a particular day
- Which body parts they want to focus on
- The amount of time they have available
- Their energy levels and motivation
The most important thing is that you're moving in a way that feels good and is sustainable for your lifestyle.
